Air Quality Assessment of a School in an Industrialized Area of Southern Italy

In this study, simultaneous monitoring of indoor and outdoor Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) was carried out in a school, by both Radiello® cartridges real-time monitors (Corvus, IonScience Ltd., Fowlmere UK). Moreover, an air quality assessment performed with data from station (ARPA Puglia) located close to the school. particular, VOCs, Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xilenes concentrations, obtained using diffusive samplers, were monitored two classrooms, bathrooms, outside school building for three weeks during winter 2019. Simultaneously, Total VOC (TVOC) concentrations measured means inside classroom order individuate activation sources sampling campaign days. The results evidence that TVOC bigger than those outdoors; suggests presence pollutant sources, classrooms bathrooms. our study can help management following recommendations: increasing ventilation activities after cleaning; involving students discussions regarding use acrylic paints, permanent markers, perfumes deodorants, limitation smoking bathrooms spaces.
